My goal is to get a copy of this amazing resource into each of my students' hands. I have used this for 11 years and it is an AMAZING tool in building students' vocabualry in all areas-math, science, social studies, art, music, PE, and writing. In turn, this increases students' reading comprehension.
This tool will benefit all students in my class when it comes to improving vocabulary that is used in all subjects areas. This resource is one that former students come back and ask if I am still using it because they really learned a lot from it. Many say they wish they were still using it. The book focuses on key vocab that students see in class and in text they read on their own.
Not only does childrens' reading scores improve, but so does their writing. Students start to revise their work and look for ways to improve their piece by using the Wordly Wise words. Students also use the words in daily conversation in class and in other classes as well-PE, art, and music. It is great to see the words are words that students will use in their daily lives.
This upcoming year, I have a lot of low scoring students, I expect that with this resource my students' scores, but more importantly confidence, will improve. My goal would be to have every student show proficiency in reading.
With last year's group, I went up to a bit over 90% proficiency, and I truly believe that Wordly Wise was a huge part of that success.
