Find It Fund It Florida - Hillsborough Education Foundation

The goal of this project is to incentivize children and their families to attend school on time and regularly. Studies have shown that poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of 3rd grade or be held back and by 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school. Low attendance rates often leads to increased likelihood of living in poverty, suffering poor health, and becoming involved in the criminal justice system.

Project Goal

The goal of this project is to incentivize children and their families to attend school on time and regularly. Studies have shown that poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of 3rd grade or be held back and by 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school. Low attendance rates often leads to increased likelihood of living in poverty, suffering poor health, and becoming involved in the criminal justice system.

How Project Benefits Students

We would use this grant to help provide incentives for our students and families directly tied to their attendance (most improved attendance, best attendance, etc...) We would not just award our students but also the parents/guardians who helped them to attend school. We would like to offer gift baskets, small prizes, dances or parties as well as food. For our students we will be putting on an "attenDANCE" each quarter for the best attendance and most improved attendance. We would like to offer foam dance parties as well as other types of incentives such as raffling off bikes and/or scooters, as well as food prizes/pizza parties.

Expected Outcome(s)

The expected outcome is an increase in attendance, ultimately increasing the amount of students who can read proficiently and who go on to graduate high school. Hopefully this will instill in our students and families the value of good school attendance, which will also decrease mental health issues, reduce poverty, and reduce involvement in the criminal justice system.

Detailed Cost Summary

This cost summary includes an amount for food that will be used as prizes/incentives to our students and families as well as bikes/scooters for prizes as well as a foam party that will be our end of year attenDANCE celebration. This will truly motivate the students to show up daily!
