Find It Fund It Florida - Hillsborough Education Foundation

The goal of this project is to provide independent learning tools to our Access Points students. Our students are sensory driven. Meaning in order for them to engage in learning it is important to incorporate their senses. This provides special education teachers with a specific challenge. Stimulating students with something engaging, they can achieve and problem solve independently, and will stimulate them for a certain time period. These materials can be hard to come by. Students in underserved communities with special needs usually do not have access to the tools needed to stimulate their senses and prompt learning. With this grant, our student will be independently learning and exploring using their whole brain and body!

Project Goal

The goal of this project is to provide independent learning tools to our Access Points students. Our students are sensory driven. Meaning in order for them to engage in learning it is important to incorporate their senses. This provides special education teachers with a specific challenge. Students in underserved communities with special needs usually do not have access to the tools needed to stimulate their senses and prompt learning. With this grant, our student will be independently learning and exploring using their whole brain and body!

How Project Benefits Students

Our students do not have access to the right tools that stimulate their senses and provide them with an opportunity to learn. They will benefit from being able to work independently and explore using their own minds. As their teacher it is my duty to advocate for them to have access to sensory materials. This will allow Access students to work together, with their teacher, and independently to solve problems. It will also allow them to work towards their time on task goals. School is a safe place for all of our students, they count on school to be able to grow and prosper. In order to do that some students need access to things that are outside the box of what “school supplies” means. My students will be able to grow, inspire, and problem solve using these tools.

Expected Outcome(s)

Last year I used a grant to start a sensory lab at my school. So our Access Points and iPeeps students could have a place to go and be themselves while working toward their learning goals with tools that stimulate their educational growth. This grant will allow me to help support my students reach their educational and social goals while having access to tools they have never used before!
