Find It Fund It Florida - Hillsborough Education Foundation

This year we would like to continue expanding our school wide garden club even more. We have over 750 kids from pre-K through grade five that use our garden. Grades 2-5 belong to our garden club. This year we would like to add a new section to study plant adaptions. This section will include succulents, cactus, and other plants that require different environments for us to study their growth. We will also add hydroponics to compare different growth cycles and changes. We plan to add a "business / finance /market side to our garden club by growing and selling some of our crops as well as using some for "farm to table" in our cafeteria. We will continue many of our previous plans such as chicks, butterflies, etc...

How Project Benefits Students

These projects benefit students by teaching and exploring life and environmental sciences. It gives them hands on access to both. It allows them to understand to where food comes from seed to table as well as an appreciation for nature. We have study birds, insects, chickens, plants, bats, bees, pollinators, watering, recycling. and so much more.

Expected Outcome(s)

The expected outcomes are making our students life long learners and stewards for our environment. They will understand how seeds grow from and produce food, how lifecycles work, how pollination works and it's importance in gardening and food growth, how adaptations help animals and plants, and so much more.

Detailed Cost Summary

We will be adding a rain barrel, two more garden bed for herbs for our soups and and flower sales. We also need a new bed for our Cactus and new plant environment studies. We anticipate the cost of all the new items coming in around $1,500. We need the soil for all the new planting. We also just put in a new drip water system over the summer and we are in dire need of new soil.
