Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Hillsborough Education Foundation - $479.00
Our goal is to utilize our classroom kitchen to have the students learning cooking skills, incorporating their math knowledge and social skills.
Our students all have cognitive disabilities. Learning life skills by allowing them to utilize the classroom kitchen to learn how to make meals for themselves is essential. We will also be making baked goods that can be sold to faculty/staff and parents on conference nights. The students will not only incorporate math skills they learn in the classroom, (time, fractions, etc.), they will use their social skills by working together. Attached is a picture of the students using the kitchen and making tacos last school year. A lot of the materials we have are old and we would love to be able to replace them and buy more materials that the students can cook with.
We hope all of the students will be able to make a few simple items in our classroom kitchen that they can take with them use at their homes to become more independent. We also hope to be able to sell baked good items to faculty/staff/parents. By selling the items they will be able to use their knowledge and skills about money and making change, which is a valuable skill they will need in the future.
The items listed are for new cooking materials, aprons for the students, gloves for sanitary purposes, food to cook, and packaging material to sell the items.
