Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Amgen Foundation - $305.01
The funding of this grant will help our students gain a once-in-a-lifetime experience to learn hands-on about rockets and how they use a force to overcome gravity. Students will have the opportunity to launch a reusable rocket.
This project will allow 3rd-grade students at our school to experience the thrill of a model rocket launch and learn hands-on about how rockets use forces and motion to launch overcoming the Earth's gravity, which is a 3rd-grade science standard (SC.3.E.5.4). The rockets are reusable and can be launched with students from one year to the next to apply the same hands-on learning experience over and over.
Students will research how rockets overcome gravity before launching the reusable rocket utilizing various forms of media and texts. Students will journal or present their findings and use their research to predict what will occur during the actual rocket launch. Students will then launch the rocket with teacher support and journal their observations. Students will then use their hands-on experience along with research to conclude how our model rocket overcame gravity and how it compares to the real thing.
The amount of 305.01 will cover the cost of a reusable rocket for each of our 8 homeroom teachers along with 1 for our AGP teacher.
