Find It Fund It Florida - Hillsborough Education Foundation

My goal is to embrace the love of all things STEAM at a young age. As a primary teacher, it is important to me that students learn to love the math and sciences through hands-on, engaging, and artsy experiments. By starting a STEAM Club at Kingswood Elementary, I am able to provide that opportunity to our students in grades K-2.

Project Goal

My goal is to embrace the love of all things STEAM at a young age. As a primary teacher, it is important to me that students learn to love the math and sciences through hands-on, engaging, and artsy experiments. By starting a STEAM Club at Kingswood Elementary, I am able to provide that opportunity to our students in grades K-2.

How Project Benefits Students

Being a Title I school, most of our students come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and this club would give them the opportunity to learn through doing experiments that they otherwise would not have the chance to try out. In this STEAM Club, students will get to perform new experiments every week exploring through building, color, play, and the five senses. An example of an experiment we will be doing is creating "paper circuits". Students will get to use copper tape and a battery to make their LED light up in the image they create (for example, they might draw a picture of a bird, put the little light in place of its eyeball, and create the circuit to make the eye light up). This will give students an introduction to circuits/electrical currents at an early age. By bringing these opportunities to our students they will get early exposure to concepts and grow their love of the math and sciences that they will carry through the years.

Expected Outcome(s)

The overall outcome of the grant is to not only grow the students' love of math and science, but being in a Title I school, a lot of our students tend to lack the motivation they need to meet their academic goals. Our math and science scores could definitely use some improvement, so by exposing kids to science and math concepts early on in an engaging environment, they will hopefully develop the love and motivation to continue to grow their knowledge in these areas.

Detailed Cost Summary
