Hillsborough Education Foundation - $780.00
The goal of my project is to create a place for the students at Rodgers Middle School to have a place and opportunity to read FAME books during their Independent Reading time. Florida Association for Media in Education creates a list of exceptional books for grades 3-5 students.
Gibsoton currently has limited FAME books to share between three grade levels. At times, students are impatient with waiting to select the next book on the list, or they lose interest in the Fame books due to a lack of materials. By acquiring additional copies of the FAME books, students can read the books within their classroom. The books will enable the reading levels to increase within grades 3-5. Reading is a claiming activity. It will also help them with fidgets to ease the nerves of their classmates. The students can buddy reading and help struggling readers with read-alouds.
The students will have increased reading levels with more defined higher-order thinking skills. They will understand various genres and redefine their preferences in reading. Over the course of the year, the students will develop reading stamina, which will impact their academic future in higher grades. It will also help to develop empathy when they buddy read with their peers and younger classmates.
The books included three copies of Fame books, fidgets, The Diary of the Wimpy Kid, and the Wizard of OZ.
