Project Goal

The goal of this project is to allow 5th graders to actively review through exploration the physical properties of different rocks and minerals which supports the 4th grade Earth Science standards they will be tested on this year.  

 

How Project Benefits Students

The Diamond Del’s Gem Mining field trip will provide students the opportunity to observe, identify, and describe the properties of various rocks and minerals through hands-on exploration. In the spring, just before testing, each student will classify and explore the unique features of gems they find while mining.  

 

Expected Outcome(s)

The expected outcome for the field trip is for students to review content knowledge of the Earth Science standards through hands-on experience making observation, identification, and classification of various types of rocks and minerals.
