I would like to update my collection to add more graphic novels. I would like funds to purchase more graphic novels that have science and history themes. Students can "switch gears" from reading difficult picture books to complex graphic novels.
When students come to the media center, they go directly to the graphic novel section. I would like to purchase novels, biographies, and nonfiction book titles in the graphic novel form. Students will be learning about topics they might not normally choose if it is presented to them in a form that they find easy to read and entertaining. By offering graphic novels that aren't just fiction, students will gain background knowledge in a variety of topics. Teachers can also check out these graphic novels to use in their classroom without having to read an entire book.
I will see my circulation of books increase. The variety of books circulating will change from series like Dogman to more difficult subjects. Students interests could change with reading new material.
I will use a district approved vendor to purchase graphic novels that will already come processed and ready for checkout. For $1,000 I can purchase 50-60 library bound books. These books cost slightly more due to the special bindings that are great for books that are frequently checked out.
