I would like to acquire a class set of mini-zen gardens.
Class Furniture - Carpets, choral risers, transitional seating/desks, etc.
I will use the mini-zen gardens in two ways: to teach social emotional skills and to teach the elements and principles of art. The mini-zen garden can be used as a mental health aid and create a physical to teach the practice of quiet reflective thought and using positive calm down strategies. The mini-zen gardens can also be used as a medium to teach the elements and principles of design. For example, an artist could draw lines in the sand using the mini-zen garden tools, they could practice the rule of thirds in photography by setting up the garden and photographing it in a variety of ways, composition can be manipulated using the various pieces included in the zen garden. Please note that the mini- zen gardens would not be used as part of a religious ritual or practice.
I expect my students to manipulate the mini-zen gardens during guided lessons. The materials are not consumable and I expect a class set of mini-zen gardens to last for many years. I expect to use this with my 6th, 7th and 8th grade 2-D, 3-D and digital art classes as well as my EBD ESE art class. I would be willing to check out the mini-zen gardens to other teachers as requested.
