To expand the aquaculture program at Brandon High School and allow students to have opportunities to breed and raise various aquatic species.
Students will be able to experience the ornamental aquaculture industry within the program by breeding and raising various types of ornamental aquaculture species. They will be able to ID different aquatic species, learn how to test water, raise aquatic plants and fish, identify diseases and other issues that may arise raising aquatic species, learn marketing skills for aquaculture products and understand the aquaculture industry from start to finish.
Students will raise and breed various aquatic species and partner with a local fish farm to sell their products they raise. Some of the species they will be raising are freshwater shrimp, cichlids, mollies, guppies, goldfish and more. We are hoping to be able to expand our aquaculture program even further with the help of grants and purchase more fish, materials and equipment.
The items purchased will be used to set up two brand new tanks a 29 gallon and a 55-gallon tank to give students the opportunity to add and grow more aquatic species as well as add to the current tanks we have started in the program already and allow them to add more fish and plants. The cost will include tanks, a stand, fish, filters, sand and decor.
