By the end of the school year, students in Pre-K and Headstart will come to the media center and check out board books so that 100% of the students have the access to books to take home to read with their parents.
Our Title 1 school has a large population of students that are hispanic. When speaking with many of the kindergarten students, they do not have access to books within the home. By allowing our Pre-K and Headstart to checking out appropriate books, they will have access to books that can be shared in the home with their parents. Spanish and English titles will be purchased to make sure all students and parents can enjoy these books.
That students will receive exposure to books in their home at an early age and will develop a love of reading and learn how to handle and care for books. All 40 students will have the opportunity to take these books home and develop the responsibility of returning the books to school.
This grant is for 69 books to be added to the media center for the Pre-K students to checkout. Additional books will be added at a later time.
