Amgen Foundation - $570.83
My goal is to increase student knowledge and a deeper understanding how our changing Earth affects mankind. I want students to become active learners, engaged in the learning process, in order to gain a better understanding of how air, water, soil, and living things work together as interactive systems. The idea behind EduCaching is to create a technology rich academic environment to support students in the highest levels of excellence. I envision students using theS GPS technology to experience simulations, support problem solving, aid in the collection of data for research, most of all become more engaged in lessons and academic activities.
Students gain and understanding of key concepts and can apply those concepts to new situations when motivation and interest is increased. Test scores will improve once students gain a deeper understanding of how elements of the environment interact with one another. Self- esteem and confidence will soar as team members engage in group explorations, experimentations, and team discussions. Students will begin to understand the importance of caring for the earth and how humans can help maintain stable environmental conditions in an effort to protect it from devastating consequences. Most importantly, students will learn to love the act of learning.
Students will be able to identify the major components of the Earth system, give examples from the school grounds and neighboring area. Students will be able to make predictions about the effects of a change in the system and infer ways these changes affect the change of other related systems. Ex. How does a change in air temperature affect the color and growth of leaves?
Students will gain a new appreciation for the balance of nature and mans influence. on the health or destruction of our planet.
A pre- test and post- test will be given to measure learning and understanding.
The GPS handheld will be the tool used to locate a Cache in order to discover new concepts in EduCaching. The "treasures might be found under a rock, covered in bramble, near a tree or buried.
The book will be read and used to build new knowledge about GeoCaching.
