The goal of this project is to put engaging, rigorous text into the hands of students weekly. As a 4th Grade ELA teacher, I am always ready to put exciting reading in front of our Hillsborough County Students. If they LOVE IT, they will READ IT! For students, getting a personal monthly edition of "Storyworks" by Scholastic feels like their very own "Book Fair" arriving monthly with exciting, academically challenging and culturally diverse texts which span across all genres. They can't wait to read new editions from cover to cover and work on each text at length through written practice and discussion. This project is truly extending the gift of learning through exciting reading!
The articles featured in the monthly "Storyworks" magazine by Scholastic, are high interest, relevant and academically rigorous. Not only will students be riveted by the timely topics featured in each edition; they will benefit from the accompanying text practice such as comprehension practice, text structure, identifying text support (such as reasoning/evidence), the use of text features, Author's Purpose, Author's Perspective and so much more! Storyworks aligns with our ELA Standards and increases my student's time reading while growing their reading and writing skill level as we prepare for County and State Assessments. I want to give my students every advantage. This monthly edition puts valued reading options in their hands throughout the year. With quality, high interest texts, my students will improve their fluency, comprehension and vocabulary; all while enjoying quality texts.
These engaging monthly editions will offer students the opportunity to work with interesting texts, across genres while flexing their skills needed for State and County tests. Practice with these rigorous, relevant texts will contribute to better preparation for both Formative and Summative Assessments. More importantly, these texts promote a love of reading through intriguing topics, fascinating possibilities and wonder! Let's work together to give children the joy of reading with rigor!
