I want to create a calming space for students who have social/emotional/behavior barriers. I want a safe space for them to calm down when needed.
Students will benefit from this calm down space by having a safe space to take a break from a distracting classroom. The mats will allow students to sit or lie comfortably, while separating them from the classroom environment. The fidgets and sensory texture items will be available for students to distract their minds and get calm. The big idea is for students to have a safe and comfy space to calm down so that they can get back to learning.
I have a class of 22 students this year who will absolutely love to use these items. It would also benefit my future students as well as students who are sent to me for an out of class break. I pride myself on my classroom community and relationship building. I often have former students visit me before and after school, but more importantly, I have students who add me as a reward for their individual behavior incentives. These students often have social/behavioral struggles and they would have a quiet place to take a break and calm down.
It would take $543.91 to fund this space.
