The purpose of our "cozy corner" is to give students the space and time needed to practice skills that will be used to regulate big emotions.
Class Furniture - Carpets, choral risers, transitional seating/desks, etc.
This space will give students an opportunity to practice important social emotional skills such as self-regulation and expression. The items used for building in this area have a STEM component which will provide students opportunities to persevere beyond challenges. These items can also be used in small groups and encourage collaboration and team building which aids in the progression of communication skills. The sensory items will benefit students who need their sensory needs met in order to center their social emotional needs. When students are able to touch, see, and hear things that meet their sensory needs they are often more successful in a social emotional aspect as well.
Students will be able to self-regulate their emotions when given a "cozy" space within the classroom to focus and utilize a variety of tools and sensory items.
