Project Goal

Book Buddies is a program that fosters the love of reading at a young age. Below are several other ways that this program inspires, motivates, and challenges all participants.
 

 

How Project Benefits Students

Students in 3-5 will be assigned a buddy in pre k-2. They will foster the love for reading through a mentorship program. Books will be purchased and Buddies will read books together. After this experience, students are given the book and encouraged to share their experiences with families. The students in 3-5 will deepen their budidies knowledge of the standards by asking them higher-order questions as they journey through their book together. Older students are also benefiting from this program because it allows them to be a mentor and give back to the school community. We have been doing this program in our school for the past 7 years and students in 3-5 are so excited because now they get to be the mentor. It is a full-circle experience that not only inspires, motivates, and challenges students while teaching them the value of community. Parents get excited and they are also motivated to get involved with their child's school.

We would like to get additional funding because the cost of these books has more than doubled and that is with me getting the value deal. Our PTA has been very generous but we have had to cut back on our mentorship Book Buddy program because of these increasing costs. 

 

Expected Outcome(s)

Students will walk away with not only a love for reading but also a feeling of belonging to a community. 

 

Detailed Cost Summary

I will be purchasing from Scholastic Books. I have an invoice and I have loaded the information above. This amount will pay for the winter and spring mentorship Book Buddy program. PTA has paid for the other.
