Suncoast Credit Union - $350.00
The MyOn Champion Race's To Reading goal is to raise student achievement in English Language Arts at Palm River Elementary School. We utilize programs such as Imagine Learning, MyOn and I-Ready for enrichment and remediation instruction during the time students are in the Media Center and our Technology Lab. Unlike other specials such as Art, Music and P.E. which have a curriculum, our Library Media and Technology teachers have created a Florida standards-based literacy program to support the entire English Language Arts goals for our students. As a result of promoting MyOn's Winter, Spring and Summer Challenges), celebrating weekly the top readers for each grade level and top homerooms from each grade level on our Morning Show and providing prizes; we saw an increase in the confidence, motivation and pride in reading from our students. MyOn also helped our ELL students, mostly Spanish speaking also achieve success as the program also has the option for students to read books in English and also in their Native Language of Spanish.
We are certain that the daily enrichment and remediation in reading through the use of the MyON program greatly impacted our students. As a result, the extension of MyOn into our Library Media and Technology programs, benefitted our students so much in English Language Arts that we are proud to say our school received the MyOn Digital Read In Challenge Banners Top School for Area 5 Transformation Network Schools for Black History Month and Hispanic Heritage Month during the 2022-2023 school year.
We hope to continue to see the growth in English Language Arts that we saw in the 2022-2023 school year extend into our new school year. With a grant we can purchase more headphones for our students to use in our labs, and Reading incentives such as stickers, pencils, erasers, paper, book markers, markers, crayons, notebooks and books to help motivate, encourage and get our CHAMPIONS excited about reading.
The majority of the cost is to purchase headphones which we use in the media center and technology lab. Our students also enjoy many of the books they read online, so having an actual copy of a book is nice as well. We also encourage our students to use paper, pencil and a notebook to practice their writing and reading strategies, such as taking notes, creating venn diagrams and creating a writing plan.
