With this musical performance, we seek to push and encourage unification & inclusivity among students at Newsome High School, we aim to honor and celebrate influential artists who've shaped our generation with empowering messages. Their legacy sets the standard for impactful artistry, seamlessly woven into our performance. With unique music, choreography, set design, and costumes, our show aims to stand out, delivering a surprising and impactful experience. We seek to inspire and motivate every student at Newsome High School with a positive message, leaving a lasting legacy for the future.
The musical school performance "UNIFIED" is designed to be a transformative experience, fostering unity, confidence, and representation among students. The event aims to celebrate diversity by incorporating a wide range of cultural influences, with a special focus on honoring Black History Month through the inclusion of influential African American music artists. The performance seeks to create a positive impact on the district by addressing important themes such as mental health, confidence, and empowerment.
The structure of the performance consists of seven acts, each carefully curated to showcase the rich tapestry of cultural backgrounds within the student body. By incorporating diverse genres and styles, ranging from hip-hop to jazz, R&B to gospel, and more, the organizers ensure that every student has the opportunity to connect with the music on a personal level.
To emphasize the unity theme, collaborative performances featuring students from different backgrounds are integrated into the program. This not only showcases the talent of the student body but also serves as a powerful symbol of harmony and collaboration.
As a special tribute to Black History Month, the performance includes segments dedicated to influential African American artists who have made significant contributions to the music industry. This can involve covering songs, narrating their stories, or even incorporating multimedia elements that highlight their impact on culture.
The inclusion of music with diverse messages, touching on mental health, confidence, and empowerment, ensures that every student can find something relatable in the performance. The organizers aim to create an inclusive environment where students feel seen, heard, and inspired.
In addition to celebrating diversity, "UNIFIED" also addresses important social issues. The performance may include spoken word segments, visual displays, or multimedia presentations that shed light on topics such as mental health awareness, women's empowerment, and the importance of self-confidence. By tackling these themes, the performance becomes a platform for meaningful conversations and reflections within the school community.
The positive impact of "UNIFIED" extends beyond the school's boundaries, contributing to the district's reputation as an inclusive and forward-thinking educational institution. The event serves as a testament to the school's commitment to fostering unity, celebrating diversity, and addressing relevant social issues.
In summary, "UNIFIED" is not just a musical performance but a transformative experience that aims to unify students, boost confidence, and represent the rich cultural tapestry within the school community. Through its dedication to inclusivity and the celebration of Black History Month, the performance leaves a positive mark on the district, showcasing the school as a place that values diversity, empowerment, and social awareness.
Many students will benefit from this grant as we prepare to construct costumes, set designs, as well as props for the show, giving all involved in the show more material to make the show look the best that it can look. Many of these items purchased for each set will be reusable in future shows to come as well. Teachers in Music and Performing Arts departments will be impacted positively by having an opportunity to open future performances to their students to take part in, such as Band, Orchestra, Acting/Drama as well as Chorus. This gives students an outlet of further creativity and collaboration out of the normal classroom setting, also raising confidence in their performing arts skills.
We would like to initiate most of our products and purchasing through trustworthy online shopping services with effective and reasonable shipping costs such as Amazon. We will work with Newsome's bookkeeper to ensure we are ordering from approved vendors.
Costumes: Costumes will be needed for a total of 7 acts in the entire show, with 5-7 students per act. We seek to purchase base clothing products, such as pants, dresses, gowns, including student designs of our own vision with different materials such as extra fabric, and gemstones. We plan to wear clothing colors ranging from gold, blue, white, red, and many more colors.
Props: Props will include items such as top hats, gloves, jewelry, and makeup. Although these are not highly prioritized as much as other entities of the show, it is still very vital to the overall impact of presentation for every performer on stage for every act.
Set Design: Although we have gathered some of our most vital parts of set pieces, we are still in need of funding to make room for building supplies to add onto different set pieces involving furniture sets such as lamps, and coffee tables. This budget will include the wood, building materials, paint, and labor to help build the sets for the performances.
Lighting: Including the lighting we already have in the auditorium, we plan to purchase additional lighting that will be needed for special FX’s, as well as improving lighting for specific acts. All of what we plan to purchase for this inquiry will be directly from approved HCPS vendors working with Newsome's bookkeeper.
Printing Cost for Tickets, Brochures, and Posters: Per the Newsome bookkeeper, we plan to utilize Desco, a local printer. Desco is an approved vendor and was used by Newsome to create the tickets, flyers, and posters for Senior Prom.
