Hillsborough Education Foundation - $530.00
Location is Pace Center for Girls:
Students will build an aquatic ecosystem to analyze, monitor and maintain the habitat of marine life.
By building an aquatic ecosystem, students will investigate the hidden world "under the sea". Understanding the importance of water temperature and pH balance in sustaining aquatic life. Students will also be able to see the life cycle of brine, algae, and other sea creatures as they grow, birth, and decay. Students will grow in appreciation of aquatic life, recognize the important role humans play in maintaining the beautiful beaches of Florida and Florida marine life such as manatees, dolphins, coral reefs and mangroves.
Our school has a approximately 60 students ranging from grades 6-12th that remain with us in 6 month and 12 month terms. Some of our students are coming from foster care, group home and etc. This project will bring science alive as students are able to build and create a habitat for life for creatures otherwise helpless. Each of our students will be able to participate in the building of the biome, researching the roles of each plant and aquatic creature added, and participate in aquatic experiments ranging from growing algae, testing salinity, and more. As the sole science teacher, it is my responsibility to bring science alive for all of our students, providing them with a moment to make impact, to know that they are valuable to our earth.
