Project Goal

Reading is the key to all other subjects in school. My goal is to create love for reading in my students that will last throughout the years to come by providing them with current and exciting books.

How Project Benefits Students

My students actually gave me the idea for this project. They would ask, "Do you have the next book in this series?" or "Do you have a book about sloths?" I would read a S.L.A.M. that they would love, and they would want to read the next book in the series. I want to keep this excited for books alive in my students. The more students read, they will build their vocabulary and their fluency. If they have books that they love and topics they are interested in, then they will want to read more.

It's not just about reading. The informational texts provide reading enjoyment, they will also help provide research tools for an expository writing class book project we create and publish together in April.

I would like to keep the love for reading alive when students find a series they enjoy. These books will benefit my students this year and many years to come!

Expected Outcome(s)

First, I expect to see my students' fluency increase. Secondly, I expect to see my students' vocabulary increase as well as their awareness of the of our concepts taught in class. Third, I expect to see my students enjoying reading and writing about what they read!

I will compare the vocabulary scores from the winter i-Ready to the spring i-Ready assessment. For fluency, students will increase their words per minute based on their monthly running records.
