Project Goal

For my students to fall in love with reading.

Category

School-Wide, Grade-Level, Or Class Events/Programs - Parent Nights, Honor Roll Celebrations, EOY Events, etc.

How Project Benefits Students

This project will benefit my students because all students will be able to have their own copy of our read aloud. This will allow them to be engaged in the text and will help to build their reading stamina. The students will be exposed to grade level vocabulary as well as literacy elements, which align to our Florida standards. This project will last approximately two months and the students will be able to keep their book once we've finished reading. This will be one of several read alouds that the students experience throughout the year, but the only one where they each have their personal copy during and after. Being a Tampa Native and a huge Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan, I wanted to introduce them to a unique text and support one of our local authors. This read aloud will be unlike any other they have read before and I'm excited to see the love of reading shine through my students.

Expected Outcome(s)

I currently teach two ELA classes. This project will benefit a total of 55 students. My hope is that after reading this book, my students will have a love of reading for a different genre, be exposed to new vocabulary, and enhance their reading stamina and skills. Being able to read longer texts will help my students on future assessments and class assignments when they are exposed to longer texts. Students will take an assessment (with a section focusing on their vocabulary standards/skills) prior to starting this text. They will also take a very similar end of the year assessment once we have finished. I am confident their vocabulary will improve and they will show growth in this area of the assessment. I'm wanting to bring the love of reading to my students and have them share in something I'm passionate about.
