How Project Benefits Students

As a Transformation School, our goal is to make sure all students are given every opportunity to improve their reading sills, develop a love of reading, and become lifelong learners. In order to do that, we need to expose them to as many pieces of literature and reading genres as possible. Our students may not have had the exposure to books that students in more affluent areas may have. I would like to increase the selection in my classroom library for them, but also be able to provide students with books for their birthdays and special accomplishments. This exposure to books will increase their reading abilities and their love of reading. Imagine being able to put a book in each child's hand on their birthday. What a gift!

Expected Outcome(s)

Students will spend more time reading independently, be exposed to a variety of genres, improve personal reading skills, and improve state reading scores.

Detailed Cost Summary

I need 10 more copies (I already have 10) of The One and Only Ivan to have an entire class set for a read aloud. The SSYRA books are a list that is released each year by the state that encourages students to read a variety of genres and topics. I'd like to have one of each to read to the class or for students to choose to read during independent time. Then, students make pick a favorite to also have a copy of to keep for their birthday. I also would like to be able to give each student a bookmark to track their reading.
