My goal is to put the Sunshine State junior reader picture books into the hands of my first grade students so that they can be prepared to enter the Hillsborough Media Services SLAM Showcase.
Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.
Each Elementary school media center is given just one set of the SSYRA Jr picture books to be shared amongst the K-2 classes in the school. I would like to provide a class set to my students so that they can spend quality time reading these books and having them read out loud in class. The students will have the chance to read the books as many times as they want so that they can prepare an art project based on the book of their choice for the SLAM showcase in March. The books could also be shared amongst my grade level and would be easier to access than checking them out from the library.
These high-quality picture books were chosen by educational professionals all around the state of Florida as exceptional pieces of literature as well as having excellent artwork. Having a class set of these books that my first-grade students can read in our classroom library on a daily basis will allow them to create art to submit for the SLAM Showcase that is genuine and inspired over time and not rushed as they are when the books have to be returned to the school library after a few days.

I looked up the books on Amazon. I chose hard cover books when possible because first graders can be a bit rough on books and I want them to last for many years.
