Project Goal

To give students hands-on experience and understanding of careers related to the arts, while simultaneously rewarding positive behavior and effort.

Category

Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.

How Project Benefits Students

Students will earn points throughout the quarter to earn a "Art Career Maker Station Day" at the end of the quarter, a period where they can take part in hands-on activities related to careers in the arts. Hands on art career stations include weaving, architecture, fashion design, engineering, potter, illustrator, etc.

Expected Outcome(s)

Students will increase engagement in art class throughout the quarter as they are motivated to earn [Art Career] "Maker Station Day". They will also experience a deeper connection as they learn about art careers (tied to Florida's visual arts standards) by taking part in these hands-on activities. Previous year's data showed a spike in behavior difficulties in art class (through office calls, behavior tracker entries). With this new program behavior concerns in art class will decrease by 50%.

In addition, increased motivation in class will lead to an increase in District Art Test scores, with the goal of 10% more students meeting the end of year art benchmark compared to last school year.

Detailed Cost Summary

The supplies above, along with some items already purchased/procured by the art teacher, will create a full set of Art Career Maker Station Centers, including: Lego, Play Doh, Fashion Design, Pattern Blocks, a variety of Drawing Boards, and Engineering sets. Each station is linked to a specific art career (learning about these careers is a part of the Florida Visual Arts State Standards in Grades 1-5).
