My goal is to give every student the opportunity to break down math concepts visually with their kit of manipulatives.
Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.
All classrooms are equipped with some manipulatives, but overtime things go missing. This grant will help me set up all of my 40, 5th grade students with a math manipulative kit that will help them see and change information about a math problem. Everyday students work on math problems but lack the tools to help them break down concepts. If each student has a math manipulative kit filled with dice, rulers, playing cards, fraction wheels and base ten blocks it will change the way students think about math.
I expect my students to make a year or more growth with the help of math manipulatives. I plan to use Iready diagnostics throughout the year to determine if the manipulatives have helped students score. Three times during the year we assess students' progress in math. Iready diagnostic scores will tell me if they are understanding concepts better with the help of the manipulatives.
