Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Hillsborough Education Foundation - $1,742.54
The goal of this grant is for every student in Fourth Grade at out school to grow to their absolute potential regarding mathematics this year and years to come. Multiplication fluency is the key to success in Fourth Grade. When a student can multiply factors 0-12 fluently, they will succeed in demonstrating mastery in dozens of benchmarks (standards) set by the state. Their math confidence level soars!
Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.
Each year, 0-8 percent of Fourth graders come to school knowing their multiplication facts fluently. This year was no exception. 2.1 percent of our fourth graders knew their multiplication facts fluently. This makes fourth grade math extremely challenging. The student must learn their facts in a very short period of time. This year, only 26 percent of the students were fluent in their multiplication prior to our first district assessment. Their grades (and confidence) suffered. This project benefits our students by shortening the time required to learn multiplication, making it less stressful and a lot more fun! Many students find multiplication fluency a daunting challenge. Each year, we witness students who are very strong in math yet fall way behind very quickly simply because they are still using Third Grade strategies to multiply (very time consuming). The frustration is extremely apparent during instruction, during testing and at home. One of the items we are requesting is a calming, stress relieving multiplication style fidget board. This calming item will speed up the learning process and free the students of the anxiety of memorizing a multiplication table or worse yet, not becoming fluent in multiplication at all this year. I am also requesting a very organized flash card fluency system as well as game changing rewarding electronic multiplication learning games. The students will take ownership of the materials requested as I have requested storage bins (with labels) and long-lasting storage sacks for all items. This will also ensure the items last for years (if not decades). THESE KITS WILL BE PASSED ON TO THE THIRD GRADERS during the final quarter, so they will have a jump start for mathematical success in Fourth Grade. In short, this grand will benefit TWO GRADE LEVELS every year! We are certain that if this application is approved, all students will most certainly will live up to their utmost mathematical academic potential. They will not only be successful, but they will have reached this success under the least amount of stress and anxiety and will prove to themselves they can accomplish anything they set their mind to.
These kits will be retained and used both at the Fourth and Third Grade level for many years to come. The kits will benefit thousands (if not tens of thousands) of students in the future. We expect 75-100% io students ENTERING fourth grade knowing their multiplication facts as opposed to the 0-8% we've seen for many years in the past. In order to be successful in Fourth Grade, a student must know how to multiply single digit factors fluently. This is a simple fact (no pun intended). With the approval of this grant, students will now arrive to fourth grade knowing their multiplication facts fluently. We expect each student to achieve their maximum potential score when tested by the state of FL each Spring. A score they will be very proud of achieving for years to come.
There will be no shipping and handling costs. Items will be used in future years too. The link for all the above items is as follows:
