Hillsborough Education Foundation - $381.00
The goal of this project is to enhance students' reading comprehension and creative expression by engaging them in the creation of book trailers for Sunshine State Young Readers Award books. By the end of the project, 100% of participating students will have completed at least one book trailer that demonstrates their understanding of key literary elements, including theme, character development, and plot, while also developing their skills in digital storytelling and multimedia production.
Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.
This project will have a transformative impact on students by integrating literature, technology, and creative expression into their learning experience. By utilizing the Sunshine State Young Readers Award books to create book trailers, students will experience a dynamic and engaging way to interact with literature, fostering a deeper connection to the material. Students will be highly engaged as they immerse themselves in the process of reading and creating. The opportunity to produce a book trailer allows them to go beyond traditional book reports and bring their interpretations of the story to life. This creative process taps into their interests in technology, film, and social media, making reading an exciting and interactive activity. As students brainstorm ideas, script, storyboard, and film their trailers, they will be actively involved in each stage of the project, enhancing their comprehension and retention of the material. The integration of multimedia production with literature will spark a renewed interest in reading. Many students, particularly reluctant readers, will be motivated by the prospect of using their favorite digital tools to express their understanding of the books. The diverse and captivating titles on the Sunshine State Young Readers Award list will appeal to a wide range of student interests, ensuring that every student can find a book that resonates with them. This combination of choice and creative freedom will encourage students to take ownership of their learning, deepening their appreciation for both literature and storytelling. Projects like this have a positive impact on school attendance by making learning more relevant and enjoyable. When students are excited about the work they are doing, they are more likely to attend school regularly and participate actively. The collaborative nature of creating book trailers, including working with peers, sharing ideas, and showcasing their final products, fosters a sense of community and belonging in the classroom. As students see the tangible results of their efforts and receive positive feedback, their enthusiasm for school will increase, leading to improved attendance and overall academic performance.
This project will engage students, ignite their interest in reading, and positively influence their school attendance by providing a creative and meaningful way to connect with literature. Through the creation of book trailers, students will not only develop essential literacy and digital skills but also cultivate a lifelong love for reading and learning.
By the end of the school year, 100% of participating students will demonstrate mastery of the Florida BEST ELA Standards related to reading comprehension and multimedia presentations by successfully creating a book trailer that synthesizes key themes, character analysis, and plot structure from a Sunshine State Young Readers Award book. These trailers will be assessed using a rubric aligned with the specific standards, ensuring that students effectively convey their understanding of the text through both written and visual storytelling elements and used to judge their videos for selection to represent Riverview Elementary in the Hillsborough County Public Schools district Students Literacy and Media showcase.
