Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Hillsborough Education Foundation - $583.49
My goal is to have a variety of engaging and accessible learning activities aimed at enhancing fundamental reading skills for students with learning disabilities. The learning games focus on improving phonemic awareness and decoding skills through a multi-sensory activities. By focusing on these areas, my project aims to create a fun learning environment where my students can build essential reading skills and achieve greater academic success. I hope to increase engagement and motivation for students in their reading activities.
Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.
These multi-sensory activities will incorporate visual, auditory, and tactile elements to reinforce reading skills-which is an essential component for students with dyslexia need to learn. These resources will utilize tools such as phonics games and hands-on manipulatives to cater to diverse learning styles-another key component to teaching ESE students. My students will increase targeted key reading skills, including phonemic awareness (e.g., sound matching and blending) and decoding (e.g., letter-sound correspondence). I plan to use these resources as an integral part of my daily lessons to reinforce the lessons and skills. These resources will also allow me to continuously reinforce previously taught skills, which is essential for students with learning disabilities. Because I am purchasing quality products, I will be able to use these resources for many years-which will increase the number of students impacted by this grant.
I conducted beginning of the year assessments with my students to establish baseline data. In the area of phonemic awareness, most of my students are not even on a kindergarten level. Several of my students scored between 30-40% on the letter/sound correspondence assessment. As for decoding CVC, the majority of my students scored between 6-30%. They were extremely challenged to read sight-words, scoring between 10-40%. Through out the year, I monitor progress through skills quizzes so I can continuously adjust my teaching to meet their needs. In the middle of the year and at the end of the year, I will do more formal assessments to track their progress. My goal is to increase by each students' performance by 20 points (51 - 80%).
I plan to purchase all of these items through The Lakeshore Learning website. I have created a public list labeled "Kerri Gould HEF Grant 2024-25". Here is a link to my list:
