The goal is to get students to follow simple recipes and be able to gain independence by learning to cook simple meals on their own. As well as learn to clean up by doing the dishes and they will expand their skills as they go on as this will be integrated all year long.

Students will learn essential life skills such as kitchen safety, meal planning, and cooking techniques. These can be used at both school and home. They will learn about healthy eating habits and making good choices when it comes to eating and nutrition. Cooking will help them learn measurement and math and reading skills. They will gain teamwork and communication skills in the kitchen. It will help them gain confidence and independence for when they exit the program.
There are several positive outcomes that this project can create. They will learn practical cooking skills including food prep, cooking techniques and kitchen safety. They will learn about keeping and staying healthy as well. This is essential for these students for when they exit school at 22 years old and need these skills to be independent whether at home with family, in a group home, or when they live alone.
