My goal is to help promote positive ways for my students to connect with their emotions and to provide them with effective emotional learning tools and skills to guide them along the way. My goal is to enhance their connection to identify character traits, making personal connections between themselves and the characters. We all know that life is hard, and I believe when there is a chance for you to help someone, that is the opportunity to always take it - and I'd love for this to be mine!
Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.
These kits would benefit students for this school year and all future school years to come - plus could be shared with other grade teammates and school counselors too, if they wanted! Currently, there are 9 Second Grade units that these kits could be shared between and if the School Counselors were to also use them, they could/would potentially be benefiting the over 1,000+ students we have at our school.
My students would benefit from this project because this company was not only created specifically for children of early emotional learning age, but it also uses a "connect-to-grow" approach that helps strengthen children's relationships with the adults in their lives who mean the most to them. It also includes a fun, child friendly, stuffed animal character with each different emotion kit which makes the lessons more enjoyable and engaging.
Within each Slumberkins kit, a storybook about a character experiencing an emotion is provided, the character as a matching stuffed animal, and a detailed unit plan guide to gently introduce the emotion. The emotion is broken into multiple lessons to really dig deep into the moral of the story and the emotion that the character is experiencing in way that is child-age friendly, fun, appropriate and easy to understand. With this, there are a plethora of activities for the child to complete both in school and at home - including but not limited to, arts & crafts, questionaries, making posters, bringing in photographs from home, and much more! Many of which include working with their beloved adults (doing fun things and creating forever lasting memories)!
Since each unit comes with a reading component, students will complete pre and post comprehension exit tickets to determine their comprehension before and after each unit so that curriculum-based projects can be created within the curriculum we are reading to go along with those reading components of each unit to enhance overall fluency and comprehension understanding. This will hold the students accountable on a more rigorous level while also providing the teacher with data and information for supporting and guidance during each unit.
I expect my students to become better regulators of their emotions. I expect my students to be able to understand themselves and their peers better. I expect my students to be able to communicate their feelings and feel comfortable doing so. I expect overall comprehension to improve. Lastly, I expect my students to have fun while learning!
