For Third Grade students to increase their love of literature through reading popular books and competing in a grade level book battle.
School-Wide, Grade-Level, Or Class Events/Programs - Parent Nights, Honor Roll Celebrations, EOY Events, etc.
This project will benefit students by making reading more accessible to them in the classroom. Having the copies available daily will increase engagement with the text and foster opportunities for students to discuss literature with peers. Students will be exposed to grade level vocabulary as well as literary elements, which align to our Florida standards. Students will be encouraged to take notes while reading which will also touch on Reading and Writing skills. This project will last 3-4 months with a culminating book battle in March/April 2025. These books will be used for multiple years as this is a repeated event each year.
As the Media Specialist, this project will benefit 8 third grade classrooms which is approximately 180 students. My hope is that by providing the books: students will be more engaged in reading since they have daily access to the books, their vocabulary will increase, they will grow to love a new genre, and their reading stamina will be impacted. I expect that student FAST test scores will increase by at least 10 points from PM1 to PM3 due to the increased vocabulary knowledge and exposure to new genres of reading.
