Project Goal

Students in fifth grade still are young at heart. Through all the testing and getting ready for middle school, I would like them to still be able to bring out their creative side. Through a maker space I feel like students will be able to enjoy utilizing their creativity, STEM skills, and young minds to explore in a fun and engaging way.

How Project Benefits Students

Makerspaces can provide opportunities for students to learn new skills and hobbies, and to explore different solutions through design thinking. They help develop critical thinking skills through trial-and-error experimentation. Users can learn about successful construction methods and those that don't work and become more flexible and resilient problem solvers. Makerspaces can also provide access to equipment that might not be available at home such as tools and educational resources. 

 

Expected Outcome(s)

To provide authentic learning experiences that connect to real-word experiences. Makerspaces can help students increase their understanding of the engineering design process. Makerspaces can enhance collaborative environments in the classroom through sharing ideas and instructions. It also gives students the opportunity to take ownership of their learning and the physical space.

Students will be given a rubric to follow and adhere to for best practice in the engineering design of their builds. Students Nature of Science scores will improve by 15% on quizzes.
