The goal of this project is to provide 7th-grade students with a hands-on, experiential learning opportunity at Busch Gardens. The field trip will focus on applying mathematical concepts, specifically Equations and Inequalities (MA.7.AR.2.2, MA.7.AR.2.1) and the Number System and Pythagorean Theorem (MA.8.GR.1.1, MA.8.GR.1.2). Students will complete a project demonstrating their understanding and application of these standards in a real-world context. The project is measurable through pre-trip preparation, project presentation assessments, and post-trip reflections.
Class Furniture - Carpets, choral risers, transitional seating/desks, etc.
The project includes a field trip to Busch Gardens where students will engage in an interactive project that integrates their math curriculum with real-world applications. Students will analyze and solve problems related to Equations, Inequalities, and the Pythagorean Theorem by exploring scenarios within the theme park.
Timeline: The trip is planned for December 11, 2024, and pre-trip preparation will begin two weeks prior. The project will be integrated into the math curriculum as an extension activity throughout the semester.
Academic Benefits: This field trip will enhance students' understanding of mathematical concepts, increase engagement through experiential learning, and foster collaboration and critical thinking skills. It will improve achievement by allowing students to see the relevance of math in real-life situations.
By the end of the project, it is expected that:
• 85% of students will demonstrate improved understanding and application of Equations, Inequalities, and the Pythagorean Theorem, as evidenced by a 20% increase in scores from pre-trip preparation to post-trip assessments.
• 90% of students will actively participate and complete their projects, demonstrating their ability to apply math concepts to real-world situations.
Measurement of Progress:
Progress will be measured through:
• Pre-trip quizzes and activities to gauge baseline understanding.
• Assessment of projects presented by students after the field trip.
• Post-trip reflection and feedback surveys.
