How Project Benefits Students

I would love to be able to provide my students with high interest books to read during independent reading time and to practice reading skills at home.

I teach third grade at Gibsonton Elementary, a Title I School. Currently, my class consists of 37 students. 54% of my students are reading two or more grade levels below grade level standards. 32% are reading one grade level below third grade standards. Therefore, I currently only have 5 students currently reading on grade level, as can be seen by their IReady Reading Diagnostic (Fall 2024).

This data can be further substantiated when looking at their FAST PM 1 scores. Currently, only 8% of my students are reading proficiently (3 or above).
At age 8, many of students are already discouraged readers. They have not discovered a love of reading and lack motivation and stamina.

I would love to be able to provide my students with quality books that will increase their interest and will truly help them love reading.

I have completed an interest survey and have gotten the results. My students have told me which book titles they would most like to see in our library! The books donated will be for students to both read in our classroom and checkout and read at home.

Expected Outcome(s)

The expected outcome of the project includes an increase in end of year student proficiency levels. My goal is to increase student proficiency from 8% to 45% as can be measured by the FAST PM 3 state assessment given in May.
In addition, proficiency in Reading will be measured by IReady Reading Diagnostic Assessment which will be given in May 2025. My goal is for students to increase to 50% proficiency as can be measured by IReady.

In addition to an increase in student proficiency, students will increase their reading stamina. They will build a strong foundation in Literacy thus setting them up for success in the future.
In addition, students will learn to love reading and will be more motivated to read in class and at home.
