Through the implementation of our new positive behavioral system, our goal is to reduce major disciplinary referrals by 20 % for the 2024-2025 school year in comparison to the 2023-2024 school year. In 2023-2024, 57 major behavioral referrals occurred. Thus, for 2024-2025, our hope is that we see a significant reduction, and no more than 46 incidents.

How Project Benefits Students

Funding will be used to finance exciting events and a holiday school store for students who have earned positive behavioral points. Our student body is diverse with many needs, and earning the privilege to participate in a fun event or do holiday shopping with earned points will be very special! The students are already talking about it! Research shows that positive behavior interventions lead to improved academic performance, increased student engagement, and a reduction in disciplinary incidents. According to the U.S. Department of Education, schools implementing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) have seen up to a 30% decrease in problem behaviors. We are aiming to enhance student success by increasing our focus on teaching positive behavior and rewarding the effort students make towards positive change. We feel confident that when we focus on this as a community we will positively impact the overall school climate which will support learning outcomes for our students. Go Cougars!

Expected Outcome(s)

We expect to see positive student behavior increase and an overall tone of respect and kindness be enhanced on our campus. We expect students to grow in their sense of self-worth because we all feel better about ourselves when we make choices we can be proud of. Our hope is for students to encourage one another to "earn enough points" to join in the fun, thus enhancing positive peer pressure. Staff will be working together to "catch students doing right" and thus enhancing positive, connected relationships between adults and children. We believe we will see major disciplinary referrals reduce by 20% this school year. We hope that this supports the foundational truth that students who feel positively about themselves, and safe in their school environment, have more energy and cognitive resource to learn.

Detailed Cost Summary

Ice In Paradise Event: This will be a fun outdoor play time which includes music, popsicles, soccer/basketball, line dancing, sidewalk chalk and bubbles. Students can enjoy a prolonged play time and celebrate their collective positive efforts!

Holiday Store Event: This will be set up as a "store" with items that costs differing points. Students will be able to come with their class and shop according to the amount of points they have to spend.
