Project Goal

Freedom Fest is a Literacy Festival hosted by Freedom High School Student Government. School clubs and organizations on campus run stations for visiting students from Tampa Palms Elementary and Chiles Elementary schools. Visiting students are in grades 1 and 2. The goal is to intertwine fun activities with literacy enrichment.

Category

Learning Aids - Sunshine state book sets, robotics kits, puzzle boards, science models, engineering supplies, etc.

How Project Benefits Students

It is our goal to give every visiting student a new book to bring home with them. Once they select an age-appropriate book, the elementary student would sit with a high school student. The high school student will read with/to the elementary student and discuss the book as they go.

Benefits include:

Supported cognitive development.
Improved language skills.
Preparation for academic success.
Developing a special bond with your child.
Increased concentration and discipline.
Improved imagination and creativity.
Cultivating a lifelong love of reading.

This project will not only benefit the visiting students, but Freedom's students as well. These students are excited to promote literacy to younger students in their community.

Expected Outcome(s)

If funded, Freedom Fest would be able to purchase 500 new, age-appropriate books for students to "shop" from at our Freedom Fest Book Store. Once students select their book choice, they would sit with a Freedom High School student and to read and discuss the book. Freedom students would share their love of reading with the elementary students.
