Find It Fund It Florida - Hillsborough Education Foundation

Increase learning gains 20% more than historic current annual gains in students attending morning math support groups. This means 100% of attending students will pass the state end-of-year math test. Increase access to collaborative problem solving and robotics enrichment to students typically not chosen for school teams. Our school is a free meals school with 69% minority students and 17% learning English so many don't easily have access to enrichment opportunities like more financially privileged peers do. Timeline for implementation is immediately upon receipt students will have access to the Wipeboards for collaborative problem solving and the robotics to use before class begins or at lunch time or during after school club. Test scores will be monitored on the district assessments and students' needs targeted in math support groups to make steady progress to the Level 3 scores students will earn in May on the state assessment, demonstrating at least acceptable mastery of the state grade level standards in Math. Wipeboards are widely used in middle school so using them will also ease the transition to middle school.

How Project Benefits Students

Students who attend extra math support groups I sponsor at my school achieve greater learning gains than their trajectories predict. 80% achieve a Level 3 score on the state math assessments currently. Those who don't realize the same learning gains attend the support groups infrequently or arrive late. This project rewards students who arrive early and attend often. Students love to explore robotics while they wait for class to begin. Robotics missions can be explored that will increase math skills even more. Students will benefit by 100% achieving a Level 3 or higher on the state math assessments. The entire school population will benefit because all resources I have are shared with any member of our school staff needing them, providing access to all 570 Claywell Elementary students. Bulk candy is a much-appreciated treat for students going above and beyond to help guarantee learning gains. I used to provide this but since losing my husband of 33 years in January and trying to live on a teacher salary it is very difficult to find funds for treating kids.

Expected Outcome(s)

All morning math students will score at least a Level 3 on the state math assessment in May. This will result in significant learning gains for all because the highest score on the first test was a Level 1. All other students in our population of 570 will also benefit with greater test scores as the materials available for loan can be used to increase engagement in math and STEM activities related to increased standards mastery, enhanced critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, and more confidence which will all work together to increase motivation to attend school and excel academically.
