Project Goal
Students in grades K- 5 will create a work of Art that shows Formal Balance (Symmetry in Math) using geometric shapes and stickers that show Balance, for example hearts, circles, and ovals.

How Project Benefits Students
Students get a hands-on experience of manipulating shapes, by making a reflection (mirror images) or cutting the shapes into to equal parts to create beautiful works of art, such as a butterfly in first grade, a 'love bug" in second, or 'puppy love' in 3rd grade. This lesson in art will help students to apply the math concept of symmetry.
Expected Outcome(s)
Students will take a teacher created pre-test (5 questions, I expect students to score 1/5) on balance during art class, before the lesson, and after completing the lesson students will take a teacher created post-test (questions, I expect students to score 5/5) while also making beautiful works of art. This Arts integration (with Math) will benefit the whole school, as symmetry on the Math calendar to be taught in February. When the whole project is finished, work will be put on display in various locations throughout the school.
