Nassau Education Foundation - $990.00
The goal I have for my students in this course is for them to understand the fundamentals regarding Marine Biology and caring a passion for this particular field of study throughout their lives.
Students will be given sampling of various fish species and plankton life collected from Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island waters in order for them to identify and classify them and determine their importance in the local marine ecosystem.
Students will learn scientific field techniques, scientific classification, and ecological roles of organisms in their ecosystems. Common misidentification occurs especially in fisheries so the use of the photographic tanks will allow for fish anatomy lessons and common misidentification of fish without harming the organism.
Seigning and plankton tow nets will be used to collect samples and compare them to the marine animal kingdom set and the field guide for classification purposes. The teaching photographic tanks will be used for identification purposes of larger organisms.
