Goal

For students to create multiple works in a series through exploration and manipulation of clay.

What will be done with my students

A clay extruder is essentially a large tube mounted to a wall with a central plunger connected to a handle. When clay is passed through the extruder, different shapes of clay pass through depending on the die that is used. Students can use these shapes to cut and put together different forms. Students will learn how to use the extruder with different dies to create several different forms to be used together in one piece. A clay extruder would help students create more imaginative and structured ceramic pieces.

Benefits to my students

Every year there are three full classes in Ceramics. This year there are twice as many Ceramic II students as last year. The potential for students to learn about creating a series of work and the methods by professional working artist is huge. Students will be able to successfully create a series of pieces for their portfolios.
