The goal of this project, "The World of Printmaking" is to introduce gifted students both at Fernandina Beach and Yulee High Schools to the variations of printmaking throughout history and culture. What will be done with my students

Students will learn about the history of printmaking from the ancient Sumerians to Renaissance engravers to modern print making techniques created by Pop Artist Andy Warhol. Students will use their knowledge of the history of printmaking to create their very own unique prints in monotype printing, engraving, linoleum block printing, and Ukiyo-E prints. Students will be able to identify major printmaking accomplishments by artists throughout history and country including Rembrandt, Albrecht Durer, Picasso to name a few and not only major European countries, but also Asian countries as well. Students will be able to identify major historical dates in context to what is going on artistically.

Benefits to my students

Students will broaden their understanding and context of history and art history from ancient times through the Renaissance to our contemporary age. Students will be able to analyze great works of printmaking from history and be able to decipher their meaning and understand how they were created. Students will increase and expand their creative thinking and problem solving skills by having many opportunities to create their very own original prints. Allowing students hands-on experiences with creating original works of art helps to give them individual appreciation towards the works they are studying but it also gives them a problem in which they must create a unique one-of-a-kind solution to. Students will enhance their craftsmanship skills and also work on their time-management skills and their focus by creating a professional work of art. Students will also increase their love and appreciation for art. Making a work of art all of their own will also boost student's self-esteem and allow them to be actively engaged in work and enjoy the process and outcome.

Budget Narrative

Materials will be purchased though Blick Art Materials art catalogue and online store. Item one is for pre-cut linoleum in which students will cut their designs into. I am requesting 120 of these so that each student has their own. This benefits 40 students at YHS and 80 students at FBHS. The reusable plates can be used over and over again as can the blades and rollers. I am requesting paper so that students have the ability to reprint their image several times in different colors of ink and to also create a one of a kind card. The printing press will be a lifetime investment as it will be used for years and years to come for various printing projects each year. Thank you so much for helping to possibly fund this project for my students!!!
