Nassau Education Foundation - $970.00
The goal of DLS-TV (Daily Living Skills Through Video) is to replace a Special Education student's inappropriate behaviors with acceptable, desired behaviors.
Step 1- Identify a social situation that needs to be improved and take a video sequence of the student demonstrating the undesired behavior.
Step 2- Student watches the video without sound and is asked 4 questions- 1. Who do you see in the video? 2. What are the people in the video doing? 3. Are the people in the video doing anything together or talking to each other? 4. What are the people in the video saying?
Step 3- Compare and share perspectives about the situation on the film.
Step 4- Create a film that shows the student engaging in the appropriate, target behaviors.
This process can be done repeatedly with different students and different situations.
Although the majority of the research completed on video modeling has been completed with an Autistic population, I believe that it would also be effective for other Special Education students as well. DLS-TV will be available to exceptional students with deficits in social skills that impede their learning. The desired outcome is that the negative behaviors are replaced by desired behaviors, allowing the student to be more successful in school- academically, behaviorally and socially.
For DLS-TV to be successful it requires the use of technology. The items listed in the budget are to film and record the students undesired and desired behaviors.
