Goal

Our goal is for our students to get additional STEM resources that promote communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving skills in our first grade classrooms. We were fortunate enough to have our grant funded last year for STEM materials that we use in our rooms weekly. All of our students BEG to do the STEM activities during any "free" time they have. We would love to build our STEM resource library with these additional materials to help deepen our students love for STEM.  

 

What will be done with my students

In our global community, our students need access to STEM materials that will help them learn to communicate, collaborate, and think critically. Our students will use these materials to collaborate as they solve problems and challenges that will require them to think critically. This will get them ready for the 21st century world they will one day enter. We each teach fairy tales and folktales which align perfectly these kits. We can visualize our students learning and building a strong foundation of fluency, comprehension, and problem-solving skills that will set the tone for future grade level success. 

 

Benefits to my students

As educators, we know STEM jobs will make up a majority of jobs in the next decades to come. We want to prepare our students to aspire into STEM careers. That aspiration should start young and early. We would like to improve our current curriculum with STEM application and these STEM stations would align perfectly.  

 

Budget Narrative

These STEM kits will be utilized in 5 different 1st grade classrooms as additional learning resources to allow our students to think creatively, work collaboratively, and enhance their love for the STEAM program we have at our school. The STEM materials from our grant last year are being used weekly in our rooms and we are confident that our students would enjoy the additional resources from this grant.
