Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 150

Our third grade students are learning so much about Florida history while reinforcing those social studies skills!  We have been able to integrate Florida Studies Weekly into some of our center rotations, which allows students an opportunity to buddy read and have accountable partner talk with one another about the material read.  HOwever, ee are still working on the digital portion of the program available for students.  Trying to fit that tool in as best we can when we can - it is a work in progress!  Thank you so much for assisting in the funding of this grant.  Our third graders are excited about these newsletters/newspaper readers!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this grant is to promote reading through social studies by having students investigate content and vocabulary terms through Studies Weekly. Social Studies Weekly will give students exposure to all Florida Social Studies standards through great content materials.

What will be done with my students

Students will utilize these materials in weekly Reading Centers to integrate Social Studies standards throughout the year. There are 36 lessons, which will provide one lesson per week, to be implemented in the 2019-2020 school year. Should the schedule not allow the integration during Reading Centers, teachers will use the material during the allotted Social Studies lesson time.

Benefits to my students

Students will have access, not only to research based content through print materials, but, through online access as well. Students who have difficulty with reading comprehension have the ability to access the material online to listen and follow along with the print material. Additionally, there are enrichment activities to extend the material presented in the weekly lessons. Because these are print materials that are consumable, students are able to go back into the text and highlight and underline evidence for better understanding. The outcome of Studies Weekly would be a stronger understanding of the third grade Florida Standards.

Budget Narrative

This budget includes seven classroom sets of 36 weekly lessons and consumable materials for each student. Studies Weekly includes comprehension, vocabulary, and social studies skills to cover our social studies standards.
