Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Nassau Education Foundation - $560.00
A goal in the Building Construction classes is to provide students with job opportunities upon graduating from High School. NEFBA (North East Florida Builders Association), along with the FDOT (Florida Department of Transportation) are two employers that have stopped by and shared their apprenticeship programs with the Yulee High School Building Construction students.
In addition, students are given the opportunity to attend the Construction Career Day field trip that showcases a lot of jobs that are in high demand right now.
The textbook is very well written by a well-known author - Mike Rowe. The students can relate to Mike Rowe because of the Dirty Jobs television series that he hosted.
The book will be used to enlighten students to all of the job and career opportunities that are out there.
This book will help students see that there are other alternatives to pursuing a career other than the 4 year college approach.
The trades (Carpenty, Plumbing, Electrician, Pipe Fitters, Welders, etc.) can provide students with a means to becoming a productive member of society.
The purpose of this book is to help close America's skill gap and reinvigorate alternative education.
Each book costs $16. I am asking for a classroom set of 35 books.
A large portion of the costs of the books goes into the Mike Rowe Works Foundation which provides scholarships to students that want to learn a trade that is in demand.
From the MikeRowe Works Foundation website:
We’re looking for the next generation of aspiring workers who will work smart and hard. This program doesn’t focus on test scores, grades, or grammar. It’s about the people who share our values and understand the importance of work ethic, personal responsibility, delayed gratification, and a positive attitude.
