Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 12

Three iPad Air have definitely had a positive impact on my classroom in such a short time! Many of my students struggled to stay on task. The iPads are very interactive and hands on. I was able to purchase high quality and engaging educational apps with the Apple App Store gift card. Students use writing apps to practice fine motor skills, following directions and number & letter recognition. One student has finally mastered his basic shapes by using the iPad. He was so proud. Many other students can now complete an activity on the iPad. My students really have learned, "I can achieve a lot of skills with iPads!"

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To provide academic and handwriting resources for students with low tone, underdeveloped fine motor skills and high distractibility.

What will be done with my students

Students unable to hold writing utensils or too distracted by manipulatives will be able to practice pre-writing and participate in number sense activities by using the applications on the iPad.

Benefits to my students

Students with physical disabilities and attention deficits will be able to participate in small group activities. Pre-writing and pre-academic readiness skills will increase as students have more opportunities to practice what they are learning in small groups and one on one instruction.

Budget Narrative

Students with disabilities in my classroom have more engagement during large group activities when using the Promethean board. I believe using technology during small group activities and one on one instruction would increase engagement, learning and skill achievement. I have read journal articles recently describing the academic gains of students using iPads. Other teachers in my grade level have discussed the many benefits of iPads in their classrooms. At this time, I do not have access to Chromebooks in my room. Three iPads with protective cases would be a major benefit to my classroom and the educational experience of students in my Pre-K program.
