Initiate and engage a conversation in French/Spanish with a board game. Student learners have to develop communicative skills in a foreign language. According to the standards, one of the four skills is presentational speaking. Students will be able to talk French or Spanish, interact with others. By playing the game “Guess Who?” students will build vocabulary comprehensibility, accuracy and fluency in a foreign language.
Students will be in pair, one board game for each pair. Previously, students have learned all the vocabulary for describing people. Before playing the game, the class will practice on the pronunciation making sure all students remembered how to ask or say “If the person wears glasses” or “he/she is blonde”.
As soon as students start the activity using only French words, I will circulate around the classroom, guide them and give them helpful feedback to improve their pronunciation and intonation.
It’s a board game that can be used in both, French and Spanish classes. Plus, it’s a game that everyone knows how to play.
After multiple rounds, students will feel so much more confident speaking French/Spanish. They abandoned the fear that they cannot speak or understand a foreign language. They won’t be afraid to push their French/Spanish to the next communicative level as an oral presentation or collaborative discussion.
By playing a classic board game but using only a foreign language, we will promote French/Spanish fluency and demonstrate knowledge in pronunciation. Students will improve their pronunciation and intonation by talking out loud and interacting with others. They will become better listeners by understanding simple questions and better speakers by using the appropriate structures and vocabulary necessary to communicate.
20 board games that will be used in French classes and Spanish classes.
