Nassau Education Foundation - $952.00
The goal for this program is to provide engaging experiences within our community to enrich life skills that will benefit their future. The following are examples: social skills, advocacy skills, self- determination skills, money exchange and calculation, communication with familiar and unfamiliar people and ideas for future employment opportunities can be fostered.
During the school year 2019-2020, the Transition Adult Program/TAP (ages 18-22), students go on monthly Community Based Instruction trips. Before attending these activities, the students practice opportunities i.e. role playing ordering meals, determining tax and tip, decision making, vocabulary and appropriate behaviors are discussed.
Students with special needs benefit from ongoing practice, role playing, and real life experiences to learn essential skills necessary for independence within the community. Our students gain self assurance, advocacy skills, decision-making skills that assist them to become contributing citizens within the community.
Most of our students lack the money to pay for trips out in the community. This grant will provide the means to make this proposal come to fruition. Thank you for considering the Transition Adult Program for a grant.
